Stepping into a historic site like Villa Lante is a journey through time—ornate halls, towering ceilings, and grand stone surfaces tell stories of the past. But these very features, while visually stunning, create an acoustic challenge: overwhelming echoes, muffled speech, and a lack of clarity that can make conversations difficult and diminish the visitor experience.

Villa Lante, a historic gem in Rome, faced such issues across its refectory, museum, meeting rooms, and cafeteria. Our mission was to refine the acoustics, taming reverberation while preserving the villa’s architectural elegance, ensuring that every space remained as immersive to the ears as it is to the eyes.

Balancing effective acoustic treatment with Villa Lante's historic and visual significance presented a unique challenge, requiring a careful and highly customised approach. Each space within the villa had distinct acoustic demands, from the refectory’s need for controlled reverberation to the museum’s requirement for speech intelligibility without compromising the presentation of artefacts. Meeting rooms called for enhanced clarity to facilitate discussions, while the cafeteria needed a solution that maintained a comfortable sound environment for visitors. We carefully selected the right high-performing acoustic panels.

Solution

DECIBEL utilised custom-sized Echo Cloud panels to deliver superior acoustic performance while seamlessly blending with the villa’s historic architecture. Each panel was carefully selected to match the dimensions and visual character of its designated space. In the refectory, optimised reverberation times created a more inviting atmosphere for communal gatherings. Museum spaces were acoustically treated to enhance the visitor experience without disrupting the integrity of artefact displays. Meeting rooms benefited from improved speech clarity, ensuring effective communication, while the cafeteria became a more comfortable and enjoyable space for diners. The integration of LED lighting within the ceiling design provided a striking accent, elevating the ambience and complementing the villa’s refined aesthetic.
