Project Overview

DECIBEL was selected to provide acoustic treatment for the ETEM showrooms in Sofia and Plovdiv. The goal was to improve sound quality while also contributing to the modern interior design of each location.

Working in close collaboration with the architects from Studio Piperov, DECIBEL installed custom hanging acoustic panels in the Plovdiv showroom and GLL acoustic panels in the Sofia showroom. The project resulted in improved acoustics and a clean, updated visual style for both spaces.

Improving Acoustics with Design Integration

In commercial spaces like showrooms, good acoustics are essential for clear communication and a comfortable environment. At the same time, interior design plays a key role in creating a professional and modern presentation space.

This project focused on combining effective acoustic treatment with design aesthetics. The sound-absorbing materials had to blend naturally with the interior style of each showroom while still delivering measurable improvements in sound performance.

Key Elements for a Comfortable Workspace

Besides acoustic treatment, other important elements of a well-designed workspace include lighting and privacy.

Good lighting, both natural and artificial, helps reduce eye strain and supports productivity. Sound insulation and acoustic control reduce distractions and improve comfort. Privacy can be achieved with physical barriers, smart layout, and well-treated meeting spaces.

Together, these features create a balanced and effective work environment.

Challenge

The main challenge was the installation of ceiling panels in the Plovdiv showroom at an angle, which was a new approach for our team. The positioning required precision to ensure that both the acoustic effect and visual appearance were balanced.

Additionally, close coordination with the architects was necessary to select the right textile colours and panel layout to match the showroom interiors. The goal was to meet both the technical acoustic requirements and the specific design vision for each space.

Scope of Work

  • On-site consultation and measurements for both showrooms
  • Acoustic treatment planning in collaboration with Studio Piperov
  • Textile colour and layout selection based on interior design
  • Installation of angled hanging acoustic panels in Plovdiv
  • Installation of GLL acoustic panels in Sofia

Solution

To meet the goals of the project, DECIBEL worked closely with the architects to choose fabric colours from our acoustic textile palette that would suit both locations.

In Plovdiv, we installed custom ceiling panels suspended at an angle to absorb sound and create a unique visual feature. Our team tested multiple mounting methods until we achieved the desired result, both in appearance and function.

In Sofia, GLL panels were placed strategically across the showroom to reduce echo and improve clarity. These panels have a clean geometric look that matches modern commercial interiors and deliver effective sound absorption in open areas.

Result

The acoustic environment in both showrooms was significantly improved. The Plovdiv location now features a dynamic ceiling design that also functions as an effective sound absorption system. In Sofia, the GLL panels enhanced speech clarity while maintaining a clean, professional look.

ETEM and architects were pleased with the result. The acoustic treatments added both function and style, helping to create an inviting space that showcases ETEM’s products more effectively.
