Groundbreaking MUTE System Testing at Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories

DECIBEL, a leader in engineered soundproofing solutions, continues to expand its presence in North America, reinforcing its commitment to delivering high-performance noise control systems. As part of this initiative, DECIBEL has conducted rigorous acoustic testing of its flagship product, MUTE 33, at Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories in Illinois—one of the oldest and most respected acoustic testing facilities in the United States. A best-seller across Europe, MUTE 33 is renowned for its ability to enhance sound insulation in both residential and commercial applications.
The testing aimed to evaluate the performance of MUTE in real-world conditions. To ensure a challenging baseline, the chosen test wall was a 2x4 wooden stud wall with empty cavities—one of the least sound-insulating configurations commonly found in construction. DECIBEL then applied MUTE 33, achieving a remarkable increase in sound insulation from 34 STC to 51 STC, all without decoupling the existing structure. This result underscores the efficiency and innovation behind MUTE, offering an effective solution for reducing airborne noise without major structural modifications.
Proven Performance Across Global Testing Facilities
The Riverbank tests build upon DECIBEL’s ongoing commitment to rigorous product evaluation. Prior to the U.S. tests, the MUTE system underwent extensive laboratory testing in Europe, where it was evaluated on various wall types following ISO 10140-2:2010, the international standard for airborne sound insulation measurement. The consistent high-performance results across different testing environments reinforce MUTE’s position as a globally recognised solution for superior soundproofing.
Certified Excellence in Soundproofing
All tests were conducted in compliance with international standards, including ASTM E90-09 (2016) for airborne sound transmission loss and ASTM E413-22 for sound insulation classification. Riverbank Acoustical Laboratories is an ISO 17025:2017 accredited facility under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), ensuring the highest level of accuracy and reliability in test procedures.
DECIBEL remains at the forefront of the noise control industry, delivering advanced solutions that meet the highest professional and regulatory standards. With the success of MUTE testing in both the U.S. and Europe, the company continues to set new benchmarks for sound insulation performance worldwide.
